In your pursuit of a perfect-for-you smile, perhaps you’ve tried every kind of teeth whitening. Or you’ve done the clear braces or aligners. Maybe you’ve even tried cosmetic bonding or a dental veneer or two.
And, even with all that cosmetic dentistry, you still don’t have the results you’re seeking.
When all else fails, that’s when a Smile Makeover at Smile Advanced Dental Center comes in to save the day. It’s one of the best cosmetic dentistry treatments near you in Summerville, SC.
We always receive a number of inquiries about Smile Makeovers, so we had one of our dentists, Dr. Randy Jones, answer the most common questions.
What is a Smile Makeover?
At Smile Advanced Dental Center, a Smile Makeover consists of cosmetic dentistry and restorative treatments that are combined to help you achieve a healthy, beautiful smile. If you have missing, misshapen, or broken and chipped teeth, gaps in your teeth, crooked teeth, or decay and damage, a Smile Makeover could be right for you.
Depending on your personal dental needs and goals, your Smile Makeover may include: dental bridges, crowns, bonding, bridges, implants, complete or partial dentures, porcelain veneers, and teeth whitening.
That’s a mouthful we know!
But we’re here to advise you on the best options and develop a personalized, comprehensive treatment plan that can greatly enhance the beauty of your smile.
What does the process entail?
Generally, after an initial evaluation and consultation, we’ll schedule an appointment with patients to prepare their teeth for the Smile Makeover. We’ll do things like removing old fillings, reducing some parts of the enamel of the teeth, and putting on temporary veneers. During a follow-up appointment, about two weeks later, we’ll apply the permanent porcelain veneers.
One thing to note is that, when dental implants are needed, the process can take much longer — from four to six months — due to the complexity of this multi-step procedure.
How do you get a Smile Makeover right?
There is a definite artistry to a Smile Makeover and we consider a number of factors when working with our patients on this treatment plan.
For example, there’s a mathematical formula for beauty called the golden ratio — and it’s all about proportion and symmetry. This formula applies to teeth, too, but not a lot of dentists know this!
There’s also tooth color to be considered. There are myriad shades to choose from — all with micro differences that can make a major impact once implemented. We mix hues, chromas, and stains to look more natural and the selection of tooth color is also evaluated based on hair, skin, and eye color as well as a patient’s desired look.
We always recommend a more natural appearance that will stand the test of time — rather than the glow-in-the-dark effect that can translate as very artificial.
How much does it cost?
Because they are a comprehensive, fully customized form of cosmetic dentistry, involving multiple visits and treatments, Smile Makeovers are expensive. For 10 teeth, you could expect to invest $15,000 or more.
Is it reversible?
The short answer is no. Ninety-five percent of the time, a Smile Makeover is irreversible because of the extensive changes made to the teeth — especially when veneers are applied.
We do actually see a lot of patients coming to us with problematic veneers that were not applied with the same level of expertise and artistry that we pride ourselves on. So we can make corrections — and do so quite often!
